A whole new Light Bee
The original Light Bee kicked off the light electric dirt bike movement. The Light Bee 2 X is Surron starting over from a blank sheet. It still weighs just 143.3 lbs, but under the plastics it's a different machine: a 24kW peak motor, 302 ft-lb (410 N·m) of wheel torque, a semi-solid-state battery and seven ride modes. It's not a refreshed Light Bee X. It's a step up into a different class of bike.
Serious motor, still easy to ride
The second-generation EVO-2 permanent-magnet motor and Bee Matrix controller make three times the peak power of the previous Light Bee X (24kW vs 8kW) and 54% more wheel torque. The motor revs to 8,700 rpm, yet it's smaller than before (142 mm vs 155 mm). Surron says full torque holds all the way to 34 mph, and oil-bath cooling keeps it from backing off on long, hard rides.
There are seven modes to pick from, Eco through Turbo, plus Crawl and Reverse. In M mode you choose your own power, torque, top-speed cap, throttle feel, regen, brake priority and tilt protection, so one bike covers everything from a first trail ride to full send.
Semi-solid-state battery
Surron co-developed the 78.54V / 45Ah (3.53kWh) pack with QingTao Energy. Its gel electrolyte runs cooler and lowers thermal-runaway risk compared with a standard liquid-electrolyte lithium pack. It's rated for 1,200 cycles, sealed to IP67, and weighs 14.9 kg (32.8 lbs). It also pops out quickly, so you can charge it indoors.
Surron's testing shows almost no drop in acceleration at 30% charge, so the bike doesn't go soft as the battery runs down. Expect up to 99 miles at 15 mph or 67 miles at 25 mph (test conditions), and about 2 hours to charge from 20% to 80%.
Chassis, suspension and brakes
Up front are 38 mm inverted forks with Kashima-coated inner tubes, SKF seals and 8.46 in of travel. Out back, a redesigned linkage starts soft over small bumps and firms up for big landings, with 8.66 in of rear-wheel travel. Four-piston radial calipers bite on a 220 mm front and 203 mm rear disc. Drive runs through a gear reduction and a sealed 520 O-ring chain, so there's no belt to look after. Wheels use forged 6061 hubs and 7116 rims, and the rear takes tires up to 130 mm wide.
Rider aids
- SRTC traction control with 3 levels for mud, sand and loose dirt
- SWC wheelie control with 2 IMU-based levels (15–35° for learning, 35–60°+ for experienced riders)
- Regen: 5 coasting levels and 5 braking levels, set separately, plus RBS one-finger regen braking from the lever
- Auto-Hold: double-click the brake lever to hold the bike on a hill
- Cruise control above 6.21 mph
Why the X version
The X is Surron's off-road setup. It gets a 3,100-lumen wide-angle LED headlight and comes without turn signals, mirrors or a license-plate mount.
